The very large firebox of the Artisan provides longer burn times and can accommodate wood up to 16” in length. The firewood you use in your wood burning cook stove will make an important contribution to successful operation. To achieve the best performance and overall efficiency it is recommended to use firewood that has been split, stacked and air-dried undercover from rain for at least one year. Burning improperly seasoned or “green” wood can be a frustrating experience leading to poor performance, smoky fires and a build-up of creosote. Do not burn saltwater driftwood refuse, rubber tires, etc. - the use of improper fuels can cause a fire hazard and lead to a premature deterioration of the stove components, voiding the warranty.

The main oven is 1.5 cu.ft. and is ideal for all types of cooking. The gentle indirect heat radiates in from all sides cooking the food thoroughly. A second oven below provides a second cooking area and operates at around half the temperature of the main oven. The cast iron stovetop provides an excellent large surface for doing griddling, frying, basting and simmering. The two insulated lids help retain heat on the hotplate when they are closed.
