A bifold door features two panes of glass for each door, totaling four panes of glass for the unit. The doors, which open and fold back on themselves, take up less space in your room and are more convenient for burning the fire with the doors open. Since these doors are not attached to a track and can swing open up to 180 degrees, they are also called "trackless bifold doors" and "full swing bifold doors".
What is a cabinet style door?
A cabinet style door features one pane of glass for each door, totaling two panes for the unit. These doors do open a full 180 degrees.
Which door style is right for me?
The bifold doors are the most popular because they are more convenient. Both bifold and cabinet style doors are energy efficient - the cabinet is slightly more so due to fewer panes of glass (and therefore, fewer seams). If you have a fireplace opening that is 32" width or more, we highly recommend the bifold doors. For a fireplace that size, that cabinet style doors are going to be very large and take up a lot of space in the room when open.
