What do you mean by "fireplace face"?
When looking at the fireplace from your room, you will be looking at the fireplace face. The inside of the fireplace is called the "firebox".
Are there certain fireplace doors that go better with certain fireplace faces?
Yes. Any of the fireplace doors will work well with a flat or smooth face, such as brick, tile or marble. If you have a rough or jagged face, such as stone, you will want to consider a fireplace door that will install as an "inside fit" (any of our custom fireplace doors will install as an inside fit - none of the stock doors do) . If you try to install a fireplace door as an overlap fit on a fireplace that is not smooth, the door will not sit flush against the face and you may have some extra work to do during the installation process (mortar any gaps).
Why do you want to know what kind of fireplace face I have?
Whenever an order is submitted, we double-check all of the information before processing. If someone places an order for a fireplace door to be installed as an overlap fit and they have a stone fireplace, we contact the customer to be sure that they are aware of the issues surrounding the installation. Most times they are aware of the extra work needed for the installation, but we like to be sure.
