What is the difference between “tracked” and “trackless” bifold doors?
The tracked fireplace doors open and close on a track, very similar to how a closet door operates. While the track controls the door from accidentally swinging out too far, it does limit your view of the fireplace. The trackless doors, also called "full swing doors" will open and fold back 180 degrees, giving you a complete view of the fireplace.
Is there a difference in price?
No, there is no additional price for either option.
What is the most popular choice?
The most popular choice by far is the trackless doors. They feature a newer technology that significantly improves the functionality and enjoyment of the fireplace.
Why are the trackless doors so much more popular?
Since the track doors do not open all the way, they won't present a full view of the fire. Additionally, the tracked doors are not compatible with our popular screen mesh door (you'll pick the screen option in the next step). Some customers find that the track doors become difficult to open and close, partly due to dirt and dust that must be continually cleaned from inside the track.
Are there any instances in which I might need tracked doors?
There are certain situations in which the track doors are preferable. For instance, if you have a stone fireplace or anything around your fireplace opening that could damage the doors if they were swung open too wide, the track would eliminate the threat of cracking the glass.
