The Pennsylvania Firebacks Eagle & Shield Cast Iron Fireback is a reproduction which is emblazoned with the Great Seal of the United States. As a result of the newly won freedom of the American colonies, many citizens chose to have this seal applied to all different kinds of household items. The original Eagle and Shield fireback is believed to have been cast in England sometime between 1780 and 1810 to meet the demand for these products.
Note: This fireback has been cast 5 inches shorter than the original in order to better accommodate modern hearth dimensions.
