Ash Dump Door

After my Ash Dump door had rotted away after many years I had a hard time finding one that would fit and be of a superior quality. After a long search I found Woodlanddirect and its Ash Dump Door and ordered it at once. The door fit perfectly, looks great and works real well.

Fit snuggly in place and appears to function as advertised although I have not used it yet during the summer months. Construction is of a quality, heavy gauge cast metal material. Not the most complex product, but I'm hoping it functions well during use.

Much better design than the other ash dump that I had that failed due to hot coals sitting on the door of the ash dump.

The door that was sent to me was not the size listed on the website. It was larger. Your company had no way to fix the problem--what you sent me was all you had. You suggested I chip away the brick to make the hole fit the dump door--not the solution I was looking for. I had to hire a handyman to come do just that--cost me $25.00. Your company eventually refunded $15.00 which I hope will show up on my credit card statement when it comes later in September. I hope the dimensions of the ash dump door have been corrected on your website. Product is a good, heavy dump door. Just not the size the website says it is.

Fine for the price

The unit is a mess. It was covered in a black powder. You cannot see it until you touch the metal and your hands are covered. I did not notice this at first and got it all over my shirt. The quality is fair considering it it MADE IN CHINA. If it was not so inexpensive I would have returned it.

Not flush with bricks

The hinge pins don't allow for the door to sit flush with the brick. Going to have to see if I can fix the problem myself. Aside from that....it's a ash door.

I unwrapped the ash dump, and admired it beauty. As an ash dump this one appears to be a beauty. Nice smooth lines, easy opening door, few moving parts to wear out. We can't wait to install it. I believe that on a cold winter night the single barrel scotch that our client drinks will taste better knowing that his ashes will be wisked away with the ash door that you folks supplied. Installation of door

The cotter pins had to be reversed in order for the door to drop into hole (round heads were in the way). Other than that, it worked fine. Bill

Ash dump door review

This ash dump door was just the perfect dimensions to fit into the hole in my fireplace. The cotter pins that the door pivots on extend just a little beyond the cast iron tabs at the corners that extend into the fire place hole. I took a pin punch and a hammer and flattened the head of the cotter pins just a little. It did not affect the door function and now it fits perfect and tight.

Easy Replacement

Completes wrought iron appearance of fire box. Replaced flimsy original. Excellent quality, very pleased with product and company.

How did this get sent?

This door arrived not being able to close all the way, the furthest it would close left a 5/8 inch opening. There was extra medal along the hinged end preventing it from fully closing. Rather than returning it I remover the door itself and ground down the back door edge on my grinding wheel. How this fault was not caught before shipping to me is baffling. Once corrected it is fine.

What can I say about an ash dump door? It fit perfectly.

Missing hardware

Ash dump door casting itself seems good and durable. The hardware depicted in the image was not included. The hinge point had pins that would certainly of failed after being exposed to heat. The pins also obstructed installment because they protruded. I replaced the pins with stainless bolts as stainless is supposed to resist oxidation induced by heating. However, I have concerns that the diameter of the shank allowed by the pre-drilled holes in the casting is insufficient. Easy enough to replace, but I did have to mortar the unit in. Overall the fit was good, which is helpful because the other ash dumps on the market seem to be a standard size that wouldn't have fit the existing hole.
