Good Product
I purchased this chimney fan at the recommendation of my chimney sweep. My house was built before many of the current building codes were enacted and the chimney was not built as tall as it should have been causing weak draft issues. My house is also close to a steep hill and there are many tall trees around my house all which only add to the problem. The Exhausto fan removed about 90% of the fumes we were experiencing. We had to run it at full speed (it's variable) for it to do this. After much research I discovered that it may have been sized improperly. Although my chimney size was right at the high limit of the RS12's capacity on the Exhausto sizing charts my situation apparently requires a little more draft. I have returned the fan (6-month return policy) and am planning on purchasing a larger one. They are good quality and work just as advertised but don't buy one that is just barely the right size for your application, opt for a larger one if it is close. My biggest complaint is; I believe they are overpriced for what you get but as far as I know there aren't any competitors. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the price. I would recommend this as a solution to draft problems where the alternatives are either adding onto the chimney (expensive!) or doing without a fireplace altogether which was my only other solution. The fan is much cheaper than having the chimney extended. The downside is you really can't use your fireplace during a power outage and you have to get used to turning the fan on/off and adjusting the speed for the correct draft. As far as WoodlandDirect is concerned, their price is better than most and shipping was quick but I did find a cheaper (and more knowledgeable) supplier which is where I am ordering my replacement unit. It probably isn't fair to mention their name here but they (WoodlandDirect) were reasonable people to deal with as well.
