Great stove - good value
osburn 2000
The insert works very well. Stock it at 10pm and still has a nice bed of coals at 7am. The blowers sound level at 50% is still pretty quiet and isn't to bad at 100%. My only complaint is trying to keep the window clean is difficult.
Osburn 2000 Wood Stove Insert
Not being an expert on wood stove inserts I can only provide a comparison between this unit and a 32 year old wood guzzeling Black Bart II wood insert. The Osburn 2000 definitely uses at least 30 percent less wood. It burns wood slow and hot. When the damper is set to slow burn, a load of wood will take most of the night to burn. The owner's manual is a must read to learn how to operate this stove correctly. For example, don't be too quick to close the damper or creosote will build up on the glass door. Operate it correctly and the glass stays relatively clean: The temperature sensor for the fan is located at the bottom front of the stove which is the last part of the stove to get hot. Thus the fan always seems to take too long to switch on, sometimes as long as an hour after starting a fire. As the manual states, when startiing a fire, the door needs to be left open slightly to get enough draft to get the fire hot enough not to go out when the door is closed. This draft however, keeps the combustion chamber temperature low. Wait 10 minutes after you think the fire has taken before closing the door. Set the damper on full open. The combustion chanber temperature will rise. The wood begins to cook and the fire will burn slow and very hot. Once the unit is up to operating temperature and the fan kicks on start reducing the damper to about 50%. When the logs are reduced to hot coals, add 2-3 logs. At this point the the combustion chamber is so hot that the logs will ignite quickly. Sit back and enjoy the warmth! it will run for 4-6 hours with the damper at 50%. Closing the damper will make it last up to 9 hours, but as mentioned, creosote builds up on the glass. The following day, when cleaning the stove for another night's fire, remove the gray ashes but try to save any remaining black coals. These will help get the stove hot quicker on the next burn. In summary, the old Black Bart II stove guzzeled wood and blasted out gobs of heat. However, it would only run 2 hours on a full load of wood. The Osburn puts out less heat but heats consistently over a much longer period of time. In my opinion, this is perfect as a secondary home heat source. When the stove is in operation, my primary electric heat-pump system stays off. I am confidant that I got a good stove at a good price. WoodlandDirect's sales and support staff were a pleasure to work with.
great fireplace insert
this insert is more than i expected it works perfect i can fit whole logs 20" by6 to 7 inch in diameter and they will burn with no problem the only flaw i see with this is the blower that is a bit on the noisy side and the termostat for it which at first it looks like it will never start it is set to start at at a very high temperature other than that i will give it a 5 highy recomended!

Osborn insert wood stove
To start off my wife did not want a stove because she like to play with the fire and she likes to look at the fire. I wanted the stove for so many reasons . We do not try to heat our home with the fireplace or stove. We did have the insert installed and we could not wait to try it out. The wife loved the look and so we tried it out. My wife loved how she could see the flames and not as offten as she would like she still play with the fire. Our longs do go longer on the burning way . We love the fan and it is a great heat to our room . We get it to about 450 degrees and that is really warm for us. We really enjoy the insert. A great investment for sure. The only complaint I have that the door doesn't close all the way. Like i can see an air gap and so when you want to have the fire on a really low setting it will always have a flame. other than that it is great.
