Q: How does this cage attach itself to the chimney? A: There are gripper legs on these which spring outward. When installing these, the gripper legs are tucked into the inside of the flue tile and then spring outward causing them to fasten by a “friction fit”.
Q: Do l measure the inside or out of the opening? Thank you A: To properly size this chimney cap you will need to measure the outside flue width and length of your clay flue tile.

Keep squirrels out

I bought this as an inexpensive way to keep squirrels out of my chimney. It fits well and only took a few minutes to install.

Great service. I am not sure as yet - installed 1 month - if the 'inside' fastening will be secure enough to keep critters out.

Review

Though I haven't used the spark arrestor because Mesa Arizona is still very warm for a fire in my outdoor fireplace, the arrestor is very attractive & doesn't detract from my beautiful Mexican inspired fireplace that has tiles surrounding the hearth as well as a rustic wood mantle. The arrestor is nondescript & that is exactly what I was looking for!
